The Coastal Environment Centre’s ‘Our Coast’  Excursion was fantastic. We were able to experience and explore a range of habitats including headlands, rock platforms, beaches and lagoons. All students seemed to have a fantastic time, though some found it difficult to stay on task with everything going on around them.

1.What did you find when beach combing?

2.Who was the Banksia named after?

3.What creatures did you spot on ther rock platform?

4.What was the best part about the excursion?

Thank you class helpers :)

James found 3 dead leather-jacket fish. Jack found a toy boat. Then we had lunch. Tom got my camera working. Finally we went to the toilets. Then we had the big walk back. Tom and Ryan got lost. Yesterday 2R and 2D went to the Environment Centre for our Excursion.

First we got on a bus. I sat next to Kelly but half way there I went to sit next to my mum.

We all got off the bus and walked to the Environment Centre. Sonya and Katherine were the main leaders; they told us some rules and what we will be doing.

Next we split into groups and my class (2R) went to read a story about a limpet got stuck to a girls finger she tried to get it off.

After the story 2R went Bird watching. We saw pelicans, Sea Gulls, Comerants, ducks and Herons but we didn’t see any Spoonbills. It was so windy that everything blew away. So we walked back for morning tea.

During morning tea Katherine brought a flying fox out, it was a baby. Then we all looked at a model and how all of the rubbish around the area is dangerous for the animals when it rains the rubbish washes away into the sea.

Soon we went to the beach and looked for things that got washed-up on the shore. Then we all talked about the stuff we got. We walked to the rock platform. We were set to find sea animals. My group had to find a live limpet and a sea anneme.

Next we talked about a plant called Banksia and went to have lunch, I had yoghurt and a banana. After, everyone played bullrush. Then it was time to go. I sat next to Olivia this time coming back it seemed like 30 seconds coming back.

I liked this Excursion just it was a bit cold for me but It was fun!

On Wednesday, 2D and 2R went to the Coastal Environment Centre.

When we got there, we got introduced to the two guides. There names were Sonya and Katherine. 2R got Sonya.

The first thing we did was read Sally and Limpet. Also, we got a Limpet shell to look at. After, Sonya passed around some Sea Lettuce.

The Second thing we did was go bird watching. These were my estimates:4 Heron’s,1 Ibis,2 ducks,3 pelicans,0 egrets,12 plovers,60 seagulls and 2 Comrants.

The third thing we did was have recess. Sonya showed us all a fruit bat, also known as a flying fox. All of 2R played tip.

After a fantabulas game of tip we had a Look at the catchment model. It basically thought us what happens to rubbish when the rain comes down.

The fourth thing we did was walk to the beach and find things to show to the class.

The fifth thing we did was our Banksia Study. We had to do our work in our workbooks.

After a big excursion we catched the bus to school.

My favourite thing on the excursion was the fruit bat.

One Wednesday 2R and 2D went to Narrabeen Coastal Environmental Centre for a school excursion. When we got there we were introduced to Sonya and Katherine.

First we were taken by Sonya, we started with a story called: Sally and the limpet. It’s about a girl who takes a limpet of its rock and it sticks to Sally. Sally goes threw small mishaps and runs to the beach and the little limpet jumps off.

Next we went bird watching .I found 3 pelicans, 7ducks and 7 cormorants. There were about 79-201 seagulls.

After bird watching which was really fun we went to Narrabeen’s storm water drain. When people throw rubbish down a drain it goes to the storm water drain.

Next we had morning tea I had mini cornithans than we played Stuck in the mud.

We then saw a model on the Narrabeen Catchment .We pretended that grass was rubbish and put it on the model and put water in and all of the rubbish went to the sea!

Then we went on an exhausting walk to the secret beach. We were in our groups and went and found many fascinating stuff we were going to make a sandcastle but ran out of time. We had to go to the rock pools.

In our groups, we had to find different animals. Our group had to find sea lettuce and little blue thingies (I don’t remember the name!) We went on a more exhausting walk to have lunch. We played bull rush.

    We then left.

    Bird watching was the bomb
